Frames on shelves - taulut hyllyille

Frames on shelves - taulut hyllyille

...or should I say - on their way on the shelves?

Frames on shelves - taulut hyllyille

Frames on shelves - taulut hyllyille

Have you seen this board on Pinterest http://pinterest.com/woonmagazine/frames-shelves/ ? Perfect! This has been the plan for all our small frames (it is quite an impressive pile), once most of them have been painted black. Today? Hopefully. Latest tomorrow ;).

Yes, I'm the first one to admit, I have the habit of promising all kinds of things here in the blog, but you know what? If I didn't promise it here, I wouldn't even get 50% of the stuff I plan done in the house :). After it became a job, well - all the decor and planning energy goes to Weranna's rather than our home. Which is a relief to some, I might say ;).

Well, this is also the reason you haven't been seeing too many (any) images of our new home - there is nothing to show ;). Except brown cardboard boxes behind a couch. Yes, 1 of them. A small one. The other one is still in the store. I know. Pathetic.

And - there will be a meeting held in the house next week. I don't want them looking around thinking - she works in the home decor business? Seriously??  My defense will be - my home is always a work in progress.

Have a great weekend - hopefully you'll see some after -photos tomorrow in the blog ;)!

Mikä on tietysti aikamoinen helpotus eräille ;).

Siksi ette myöskään ole nähneet montakaan (yhtäkään) kuvaa meidän uudesta kodista Suomessa - eipä ole kauheasti näytettävää...paitsi ehkä pahvilaatikot sohvan takana. YHDEN sohvan takana. Pienen sellaisen.

Oikeesti?? Toki puolustus löytyy - mulle koti on aina prosessissa. Välillä isossa, välillä pienessä. Tällä kertaa aikas isossa...

Kaunista viikonloppua, toivottavasti huomenna tulee kuvia blogiin :)!!

All season's table - Vuodenaikapöytä

Blue interior - sininen sisustus
This great idea came from the presentation of Add Simplicity at the 'stora bloggdagen' a couple of weeks back - have a 'season table' in your entrance hall! I absolutely love the idea! Of course you do it kind of automatically, as well - but usually in the living room or in the kitchen - self-picked flowers for the summer, pumpkins for the fall, something red and candles for Christmas, bright tulips when waiting for the spring...

But this is there to welcome your friends and family to your home! I put the Feng shui Bagua (more about that still this week!) on top of the entrance floor of our new home in Finland, and the entrance is in the WATER -area. So it is blue (surprise ;)) that is welcoming our guests (or construction guys) this summer.

Tämä ihana idea tuli Add Simplicityn Jannicelta (eilisessä postauksessa muuten ihana idea pimeän portaikon uusimiseen!) stora bloggdagen :ista Tukholmasta pari viikkoa sitten - vuodenaikapöytä eteisessä! Ihana idea!

Welcome to Weranna's Easter home

Easter inspiration
Don't you just love spring flowers? Yesterday I took some (some hundreds ;), perhaps I can use 5% of them...) Easter and spring photos at our showroom, and ended up mostly taking pictures of the flowers. You'll see during these few weeks before Easter...what really BUGS me is that I still can't get the light right. I mean look at these photos - 4 of them, all in same exact spot, within 1 minute, and all the lights are whatever. Perhaps I should just stop using the Photoshop auto color option. Ahh, I don't know.

The sun was shining outside, and it was just so pretty in our 1952 traditional wooden house. The flowers are placed in En Gry og Sif Easter egg basket to welcome the guests.

Of course my favorite bag (my 10 kg portable office still travels in one of these, carried it all around Helsinki on Thursday, for example, UNBELIEVABLY strong), Rice Raffia Shopping Bag was with,

Pink Rice Raffia Shopping Bag
as well as another absolute must, Samantha Holmes travel shawl, hand knitted in Peru of 70% Baby Alpaca / 30% Bamboo. Ivory is one of our new colors for the spring, together with the pale pink (SOO pretty!)

Portobello road market

I mostly enjoy calm colors around me - pebblestones style. Different hues of brown, grey, white, pink, lavender.

But sometimes - a true color inspiration is in place! Here I had such a hard time deciding whether to look up or down or something in between...added with sunny +24 C, some reggae music and the scent of Belgian waffles one could say that all the senses got exactly what the doctor ordered...

Luckily I was a bit short of time - otherwise 1 container would've not been enough to bring home all the things I stopped to admire...

The above shop, Rezai Persian Carpets, was (of course ;)) the one I spent the longest time in...admiring his IKAT and Suzani textiles...and had a really nice chat with him, as well.

Yes, without any doubt, Portobello road became one of my very favorite places on earth. LIKE. LIKE. LIKE.

Birch tree wreath turned crayfish party wreath

They are such funny looking creatures, aren't they :)? Felt like making a wreath the other day - I usually make at least 1 larger flower garland each summer, but this year haven't managed for some reason.

My hands were itching to make at least SOMETHING, so it became a wreath made of birch tree branches together with some red roses and white carnations. For the crayfish party I would add a few crayfishes - just because.

AHH - and I simply love when I write a post and then blogger decides not to save it, so here we go the second time...

And must admit - I cheat when making these. I am using an old base made of birch branches and tied with wire. I tie the fresh branches on top and secure with some jute twine. As I figure - these last only a few days, so why bother to spend hours on it each time?

A TIP TO HAVE THEM LAST THOSE FEW DAYS: Sink into a large bucket filled with water when not in use, easily triples their age. Just remember to remove the crayfish; if you don't, you'll know the next morning, why ;).

Making it made me happy, now looking at it makes me happy - so a good project overall :).

Crayfish party place cards

Sometimes it might feel hard to say, doesn't it? It is easier to write.  Well do :)!

We prepared place cards for each guest for the party table, and wrote small messages inside - you make me smile, you are my sunshine, I love our long chats, I love to travel with you...etc. If you invite them to your crayfish party, you've surely done something special together at some point, haven't you?

Of course with some guests it is too hard to pick what to write - I guess 'I love you and everything about you' would do in that case ;).

The scallop shells we are using for appetizer plates I've got some years back from my sister (my FAB sister, whom we are doing the crayfish party this year with) - her neighbor had been catching scallops in Norway, and the ladies, of course, got busy thinking more use to the shells. Beautiful, aren't they?

tell that you care - today

One is not getting younger, for sure. When still in the 30-range, getting there or slightly passed it, life seemed quite simple: you have an education of some sort, have a job, perhaps in a relationship, planning a life and kids and all that.

Now, nearing 40 - you start to question. Some call it the middle-life crisis, some call it spiritual awakening. Whatever - to me it is like - not yet!! Before it was friends' parents falling ill or very rarely a friend - now-a-days it is sad stories about someone's parent passing away, or people in your own 'gang' getting seriously ill.

When you face something such close by, or it hits you, you REALLY start thinking - many of those, who have gone through it and gotten better (thank God!) seem to change their life completely, or they themselves seem to change. They become softer, they laugh a lot more, they start doing things they want to do rather than what others expect them to do. Let the guard down somehow. They seem more sincere, somehow more honest to life.

I've thought - I don't want to wait 'til that happens to me personally, have had too many close-by's during the past year and a half. Friends, loved ones, family members.

Now is as good time as ever to be soft and child-like and do things you really want to do. Tell the people you love that you really care for them, and that they make you smile, and that they are important.

Bring a little more love to life. And even more importantly - live a little more.

Life is beautiful

What are you dreaming of? Do you have it figured out where you want to be in 5 years, in 10 years, in 20 years? What are the things you want to accomplish by then? What are the places you want to visit? What are the experiences you want to have, the real 'musts'?

While balancing constantly between family life and work, and even though I am having a dream job and doing everything I always wished for, sometimes you just tend to be too busy to enjoy any of it. Having had kind of a nomad -childhood, followed by nomad life, you are adding a very restless soul to that equation - there are so many things undone, go and do them!!

This July and August Weranna's will be dreaming and asking, what is your dream? What is it you want to do? What makes you blossom? What makes you smile? We'll be organizing crayfish parties spiced up with romance, we'll be travelling, and we'll be fulfilling our dreams - at least by building inspiring mood boards on the wall.

Life IS beautiful.

Treasure hunting

The other day we dropped by a flea-market in the close-by tiny village. You wouldn't BELIEVE the things they had for sale. Please get in touch with me, if you wish to know where the place is - I am scared to give any details here as I really don't know whether they keep the place properly locked.

This specific flea-market is special for two reasons:  it is held in an old house where no renovation has taken place - well, ever, I assume ;) - and the old cardboard walls and wooden floors are still intact. You get instantly that tickle to your fingertips - what can I find here??

The other reason is that there is nothing tried or styled about this flea-market - it is as authentic as it can get. The people living in the surrounding areas are selling their things found in the corner of the barn, or in the dusty attic, and that's it. There are some 100+- years old larger pieces (like the below reddish bench from 19th century, BEAUTIFUL!) which aren't for sale easily (this woman knows as I figured I must have asked about every single such piece ;)).

No, I don't think the old country side of Finland can get any more authentic than this.

Paulina Arcklin

Paulina Arcklin
If I would need to name two persons, who's defined style in home decor always catches my eye, those two people would be Paulina Arcklin and Lotta Agaton

These pictures shown here are all from Paulina's facebook page, and I just pure love the style. Here you find exactly, what home decoration should be all about - mixing and matching, now remind me what I've written there - hold on - 'old meets new, soft meets rough, ethnic meets classic, design meets supermarket'. Here they've kept everything together with color white - but the thread could of course be anything else, as well.

Just fabulous.
